Old St. Augustine & Anastasia Beach

Today we walked quaint old St. Augustine and visited Castillo de San Marcos, the Spanish/English/Spanish/American fort guarding the town.

Later, back at Anastasia State Park where we are camping, we took the boardwalk out to the beach late in the afternoon.

From there, over the dunes, we could see the lighthouse:

Diane on the lookout for migrating right whales.

... and of course, a couple of shore birds.

A Semipalmated Plover looking a little plump in his non-breeding plumage,

and a Short-billed Dowitcher.

Tomorrow we leave Anastasia State Park - a really wonderful place - for farther south on the Gulf shore.
